Many of us parents start dreaming about little ones' clothes soon as pregnancy progresses, and planning a wardrobe for our future family member is a wonderful way to prepare for the upcoming life change. We may have a specific idea of certain patterns, color schemes, or clothing styles. Custom sewing may seem like a strange idea at first – but don't worry. In this text, I'll go over what custom sewing means, why it's worth it, and how easily you can order personalized children's clothing from us, for example!
Why order children's clothes from a tailor?
Made-to-order means that the garment is only made after you have placed the order. It is not ready-made on the shelf, but is cut and sewn from the fabric and design of your choice. This brings with it many advantages:
Custom tailoring means that the garment is made just for you. It is not mass-produced by a chain store, but an individual, considered choice.
- Individuality – I use ready-made patterns, but I can easily make small changes according to your child's measurements: shorter or longer sleeves, more generous back sizing, narrower legs – feel free to ask.
- Quality – The clothes are handmade in Finland from high-quality materials, such as cotton-elastane jersey. All fabrics we use meet the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, class 1 criteria, making them safe choices for baby clothes as well.
- Domestic work – When you order from Kajavalla, you support Finnish craft entrepreneurship. Every order genuinely makes me happy – I never take any of it for granted.
- Ecology and value choice – Clothes are made responsibly: you know who makes them and what kind of materials they are made of.
This is how you order easily
The idea of custom sewing may sound complicated, but it's not! Or at least I've tried to make it as smooth and clear as possible for you.
- Choose a clothing model – We have plenty of options for babies and children: bodysuits, shirts, leggings and balaclavas are the most popular products! The selection includes both casual and formal clothing – everything is sewn with the same love. If you can't find a clothing model you like in the online store, you can always ask – often the desired models work out!
- Choose a size and tell us about any changes you would like to make if necessary - I'm happy to help if you're wondering about the right size or want to confirm sizing, etc.
- Choose a pattern – This is many people's favorite step! Kajavalla has a wide and changing selection of patterns, of which the Kaverini patterns are especially loved. I can also sew from the customer's own fabric ! (For example, Metsola, Marimekko, etc. read more: Product from my own fabric )
- Place an order in the online store – Once you have made your selections, add the product to the shopping cart and proceed to checkout. Payment service provider Paytrail offers many reliable payment methods, from mobile pay to online banking. After paying for your order, you will immediately receive an order confirmation in your email.
- Delivery – Your order will be sent for sewing. Each garment is cut and sewn to order – exactly according to your choices. The delivery time for custom-made products is approx. 3 weeks. If you need the clothes faster, e.g. for a party or as a gift, it is always worth asking – I will be happy to help and we will try to speed up the schedule.

"I'm not sure about the size or model – what do I do?"
No problem – you can always ask for advice via email or social media. I will help you choose the best solution.
"Can I use my own fabric?"
Yes! I can also sew clothes from the customer's own fabric. For example, Metsola or Marimekko fabric that you already have, or a desired fabric ordered from an online store - you can send it to me to sew. See more information here: Product from your own fabric
"Can I exchange or return the clothing I ordered?"
Custom-made garments are made individually, so they do not have the normal right of return. However, we always try to find a solution if something goes wrong.
"How long will it take to deliver?"
The delivery time for custom-made products is approximately 3 weeks. If you need the clothes faster, for example for a party or as a gift, it is always worth asking if faster delivery would be possible.
